Nato a Roma nel 1899 terzo figlio del noto scrittore e premio nobel
Luigi Pirandello, interrompe gli studi classici a cui il padre lo aveva
indirizzato e si dedica alla scultura e al disegno. Dopo il 1918, frequenta
lo studio dello scultore Sigismondo Lipinski. Nel 1920 frequenta la Scuola
libera del nudo. Le prime opere note sono alcuni disegni realizzati intorno al
1920 ed alcune incisioni datate 1921, anno in cui inizia a frequentare Felice
Carena. I primi dipinti datati sono del 1923. Inizia a esporre nel 1925 alla III
Biennale di Roma, e nel 1926 alla Biennale di Venezia. Tra il 1927 e il 1930
vive a Parigi, dove entra in contatto con Severini, Tozzi, de Chirico, Magnelli,
Paresce, Savinio, Campigli, de Pisis , e conosce Picasso, Braque e Soutine.
Allestisce nel 1929 la prima personale alla Galerie Vildrac, e nel 1930 espone a
Vienna. Dopo il 1945 anche Pirandello vive la difficile fase di travaglio che
coinvolge tutta la pittura italiana, tra "realismo" e "neocubismo".

Born in Rome in 1899 the third son of the famous writer and nobel prize Luigi
Pirandello, interrupted his studies in classical whose father had addressed and
