To discover Milan is to discover Leonardo da Vinci, a man well beyond his time in a city well beyond all times. The Milan of Renaissance is also enlightened by the contribution of this great genius: a matchless prodigy of humanity who, in 1482 started his 17-year long adventure at the court of the Sforzas.

Leonardo was kept busy in this city where he worked on his great fresco, the Last Supper. Furthermore, he also planned part of the canalisation of the Navigli for the exploitation of the waters of the territory around the city, where he specifically applied his dock system necessary for ensuring a perfect flow of the waters.

Suggested Tour of the Leonardesque Milan

• Visit to the Sforzesco Castle where the powerful ruler of the Renaissance Milan, the Duke Ludovico il Moro, summoned the great Leonardo to work there. Here is also kept the Codex Trivulzianus (in the Biblioteca Trivulziana inside the castle) which includes studies in architecture and religious themes.
• Visit to the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie church and its legendary Last Supper fresco
• Visit to the Museum of Science and Technology which dedicates a large area to Leonardo the engineer and scientist with models of his machines and paintings.
• Visit to the Ambrosian Library housing the precious Codex Atlanticus that contains a number of drawings on various themes, such as mathematics, astronomy, botany, zoology and military arts.
